99.9% Success

Day One was a 99.9% success!! I followed the vegan rules and didn't drink/eat any animal products. I just didn't follow the "no nuts and oils" rules. I had ONE pretzel rod yesterday - ONE!!!! That pretzel rod contained a teeny tiny amount of oil. Oh well. I followed the vegan rules, which is the main thing to focus on. Plus, it was just one pretzel rod, so it didn't do much damage. Therefore, I am proud of myself!!

For breakfast, I had a banana and a glass of vanilla flavored soy milk. [Everyone thought it was gross that I drank a glass of vanilla flavored soy milk. I just told them, "Once you've had a glass of regular soy milk, you can drink anything!!" And that's the truth!!] I had an orange for a snack between breakfast and lunch. For lunch, I had some red beans and rice. That was actually pretty good!! I had another orange for my snack between lunch and dinner. For dinner, I had half of a vegan stuffed pepper [which was amazing] and an apple. For dessert, I had some raspberry sorbet. DE-E-LISH!! Then a little bit later, I had a pretzel rod. Also, I drank water throughout the day. It really wasn't that bad yesterday going without animal products. I thought it would've been worse, but it wasn't. The hard part about it is that I'm not supposed to have anything with nuts and oils. While it sucks that I can't have anything with nuts and oils, it's also a "blessing" in a way. Instead of grabbing a handful of chips to snack on, I have to grab a piece of fruit. So if you want to be insanely healthy, you should definitely become vegan and also cut out nuts and oils.

I know that this whole vegan and no nuts and oils thing sounds like there isn't much to eat, but let me tell you, I go to this one website, and they have SO MANY recipes that contain no nuts and oils. I've found everything from pancakes to cakes, pizzas to cookies, and everything in between!! And I'm not going to lie, the photos make the food look amazing, and the ingredients don't make it sound bad at all!!

Honestly, there's stuff that you can make that the whole family can enjoy, even if everyone in your family isn't vegan. And for some things, you can add a few ingredients that aren't vegan friendly for those that aren't vegans. For instance, you add some cheese, pepperoni, and other meats to the pizza. So while you're enjoying your vegan pizza, the rest of your family can enjoy their pizza, and you didn't even have to make two totally different meals!! The desserts can be for everyone. I have yet to try a vegan dessert [minus the raspberry sorbet], but I've heard nothing but good things about them!! I guess my one aunt is always making vegan desserts, and they're really good!! Hopefully I'll get to see her a few times while the boys and I are up here in Ohio, because I want to try some of the desserts she makes.

Along with eating vegan yesterday, I did a little bit of working out. My sister and I took the boys out for a walk. Everyone says that we went on a long walk, but it didn't feel that way to me. It didn't feel like a short walk, but it didn't seem like a long one either. After the walk, the boys had some lunch and Brayden went down for a nap, while Michael just laid on the couch and watched a movie. During that time, I worked out my legs and abs a little bit. I didn't do a whole lot [well, not as much as I used to], but my legs were definitely feeling it!! I felt a little bit of a "burn" in my abs, but nothing major. I also stretched 2 or 3 times yesterday, and that felt WON-DER-FUL!!!!

Today has been a good so far. I had a banana for breakfast, then I stretched and went out to do some intervals of running and walking [of course I pushed myself to do more running than walking]. Once I got home, I sat down for a few minutes because I felt sick [running in cold weather SUCKS]. After that, I got in the shower, and have been drinking a lot of water. I think during the boys' nap time later, I am going to do some yoga. I redownloaded the P90X Yoga video yesterday, and I love that one!! I love yoga in general, but the P90X Yoga is by far my favorite!!

I can't wait till Monday to see what one week of being vegan has done!! Not only will I step on the scale, but I'll also be measuring my upper arms, chest, waist, hips, thighs, and calves. [Yes, I know, I measure a lot of areas.] I'm a bit excited for Monday to get here, even though it's just Tuesday!! HA.

  1. That is so awesome that you are doing that! Wondering...is vegan stuff soy free? My mom is allergic to soy and it sounds like she could do the vegan thing.

  2. Some stuff is soy free, but soy does take the place of meat and soy milk takes the place of regular milk. You can find soy-free vegan things though, you just have to look.

It's just like how I'm trying to cut out nuts and oils, but not all vegan foods/meals are nut-free and/or oil-free. You just have to look through everything to see what can and can't be eaten.
